These predators are much more present in our lives than most people realize. Due to their secretive and shy nature, hard to visually spot even when in large numbers. Mostly hunters of small prey, rabbits, squirrels, mice, shrews, etc,. they sometimes will eat carrion (dead animal carcasses). In extreme cases, they have been known to attack livestock and small pets. There have been reports of certain Shreveport Bossier neighborhoods experiencing these animals eating "catfood" left outside by cat lovers.

BOBCATS - Typical feline body structure. Two to three times larger than a domestic cat. Tawny colored fur with a short "bob" tail. Average weight is 14 to 40 lbs. Capable of killing prey from mice to deer. Opportunistic predators. Breeding season is from January to June with litters containing 2 to 4 kittens. Sometimes found in new subdivisions.

RED FOX - Resembles a slender built dog. Weighs between 7 to 13 lbs. Reddish fur with bushy tail. Opportunistic feeder. Hunts prey from mice to rabbits. Sometimes fawn and poultry are killed. Will feed on carrion. Solitary canine except for the winter breeding season. Normally has 4 to 9 pups. Commonly found within city limits.
